Laundry Day
I like Turkey, who wouldn’t like a country where cats rule the capital and the workers are humming their own tunes…?
I’m sitting in the laundromat waiting for our washing to finish, grateful that we found one so close to the hotel…Theo’s gone off to buy banana’s and Rosa is back in our room having some blessed time to herself…
We are staying in the Kadikoy district of Istanbul and all we were fit for when we first arrived was ‘wandering’ after our hot and intense journey, finding our feet and changing money. After a sleep in the afternoon we went out for a fantastic meal (which cost loads of money because we did the dumb tourist thing of not asking for the menu and just accepting everything the waiter brought us – sigh! …but it really was completely delicious so a mistake worth making)
We are wondering whether having a Turkish bath when it’s so flippin’ hot is a dumb idea or not…I fancy it myself because when you’re in Turkey, why not? …and one of my best friends said we really should…she’s so going to get it if it turns out to be a nightmare 🙂
HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: An older Turkish woman translating our ticket request to the woman behind the counter when iTranslate turned out to be a bit crap – she was so easy and kind…it brought tears to my eyes – I love the world where people go out of their way to help each other…
LOWLIGHT: Putting our washing in the wrong machine and having to pay £1 more for the wash because we’d already put the first lot of tokens in before we noticed…
Welcome to the world of haggling.. sounds like you need to practice. Am sure you’ll get the hang of it.. Good to hear the gift of human kindness lives on. And I used to think you were good with slot machines Shannon…
The food looks amazing. And the cats of Istanbul are enough to tempt me to visit…. But the heat…..?!!! Missing you all but loving the blog. Xxxx
