Well done! Ears to the ground then to hear the latest adventures from you! Can you put a date at the top or bottom of your posts? It helps in figuring it all out…
Where is that photo taken in Russia? It looks great. Could be Scotland though…are you sure you didn’t just come back in via Aberdeen?
Hey Andy – Theo here. you rumbled us! It’s actually the Lake District and we never left…. Except I’m sitting in a cafe in Aterau Kazakhstan writing this now. The pic is just over the Russian border on top of the mountains north of Tiblisi, Georgia. Our bus was stopped for the third time after the border for another passport check. But I have to tell you that for all the barbed wire and armed guards, the Russian border staff were quite fun and not at all difficult. They saw us as a bit of a novelty, and like most Russians we’ve met, genuinely pleased to see “Angliski” visitors. The young woman who checked our visas was unbelievably gorgeous, literally like a beautiful agent from a Bond movie. Luckily not so lethal though, just a nice girl doing her job. Sorry the blog posts have fallen behind. We’ve yet to report on Russia and we’ve already left! Wi-Fi isn’t always east to find. Theo
That’s such a lovely photo… of all of you together. And an especially lovely one of Rosa. I’m glad you’re safely across the border and well done for finding wi-fi! Xxxx
So proud of you all, I plan to go myself to visit the many kins domains communities that have formed there from the book the Ringing cedars. Thank you for taking us all with you. Love ❤
I’m so happy that In stumbled across this adventure that you’re all on.
It has long been my dream to overland to Thailand (from the UK) but I was certain the crossing into China was a massive stumbling block and I hadn’t even considered going via Russia!
Can I ask….did you guys sort your Russian and Chinese visas back in the UK before you left?
Hi David, we applied for both our China and Russia visas before leaving, because we couldn’t find another route, and I think we needed to apply in country of residence. Russia is expensive. If we could’ve avoided it we would’ve although we’re glad we went there of course. You could go through Iran Afghanistan Pakistan too, if you were up for it. We met a Chinese female traveller who had just done that, but it might not be so friendly/safe for brits. Azerbaijan may open its land border, so keep an eye on that. The hard bit with Russia is booking your train back OUT, in advance, which you need for the visa. With China, we needed to show a booked flight to get the visa, even though the land border is open. We then had to cancel flight once we had the visa. It cost us. However, I believe you can find an agency in London to do your visa app, and I think the can generate bogus flight numbers for that bit of the form, but I don’t know. There’s lots of forums, FB groups etc with info. Good luck! It’s really worth it. X Theo
So so so happy to hear that!
Now to make it back out again!
Great news and a lovely photo of you three.
Phew!
Whoop whoop!! Xxx

So glad you made it in and, from Theo’s comment, out of Russia. May the gods smile on you all. X
